How long
has your website been up on the Net? Have you revised it to
keep it up to date?
Here
are a few factors for you to consider when deciding whether
you should update your website.
Site design has evolved. Isn't that a surprise! We keep
on learning. However, one very significant change in design
has occurred that we suggest you not ignore. We estimate
that anywhere from 70 to 90+% of visitors to a website never
get past the homepage. This is a subject for lengthy discussion
but one thing is clear. Unless you get your message out
on that first page or you are able to persuade the visitor
to browse further, your site has failed. We are now designing
sites with much more information on the homepage and creating
a unique design to the homepage.
Your business has changed. That is not a surprise. You
have new products, new emphasis, important contact information
has changed, etc.
Site feedback. You have received many comments that
have been filed in the "when I get around to it" file. Lets
put these comments in a list, which will provide a basis
for the site update.
Tweaking. If you have created a site and it has simply
sat there it is time to at least take a look at it for a
few minor changes. The changes may seem minor but the results
could be enormous!
Old rag factor. Maybe it is just time for a facelift.
Father time does that to us.
OK. Now
you are thinking - but how should you go about approaching
a web overhaul? Do you throw the whole thing out and begin
from scratch? Do you tweak design? Do you simply update the
text? Do you add new functionality? Do you finally put in
that e-commerce module?
What better idea than to take your current printed newsletter and put it online. Maybe you do not have a newsletter that you send out regularly. Should you?
There are many more than ten web marketing techniques but if you do these 10 correctly you are well on your way to online success.
